This application (pronounced "NoExe") installs a shell extension for the .~exe file extension. When double-clicking this file type, a consent dialog will pop up, asking you if you want to execute the file.

Usually, one does not have files containing malicious code on their computer. But for development, analysis, research, security, etc. there sometimes is a need to store such files somewhere. And if executing a file by accident means damage, you need an additional layer of security rather than a security boundary. Renaming the extension to something like .exe_DONTRUN is one way of preventing terrible accidents. An improved concept is provided by this application.

An extension for Sandboxie is also available, allowing you to either run the file, or run it sandboxed. And of course, to click "Cancel" if it almost "happened again".
